Excuse Me, Sir, Could You Spare a Book?

I currently have nothing to read. I've picked up some books at the library and they were awful. Sorry, folks, I typically don't buy a book first -- I read it and if it's something I'd read again, I go buy it (with some exceptions... I do have some authors who are "auto-buy").

In any case, I find myself without a book to read -- a situation that is utterly unacceptable -- and would love, Love, LOVE some book recommendations. I am trying to locate some of the YA books recently recommended to me by Charity and Darcy, but they aren't at my library and I'd have to drive to the library about 45 minutes from here. It's on my list of things to do, but I've been busy this week.

Anyhoo... any recommendations? Any books knock your socks off recently? Any authors you love? C'mon folks, everyone should have something to say on this. And I'm desperate. Send help!

I don't know if you're into fantasy at all, but I've "discovered" an author I really like.

It's Jonathan Stroud and he wrote (among other things) a trilogy about a young magician and the Djinn he summons. The trilogy is called "The Bartimaeus Trilogy" and the books are The Amulet of Samarkind, The Golem's Eye, and Ptolemy's Gate . This is a series you DEFINITELY want to read in order.

I also read, for the first time (where have I been) Maeve Binchy.
The Return Journey is a collection of short stories. I want to re-read them, because they are masterful. Tara Road and Scarlet Feather are the two novels I've read and I enjoyed them as well. There are some recurring minor characters in them, and I liked that. Of course, these are all set in Ireland and that's always a big draw for me.

Good luck finding something. I know what it's like to not have anything worth reading around.

Ok. I just finished Hell on Wheels by Karen Kelley and it was phenominal. I loved it. Before that I did re-reads of Lucy Monroe's merc trilogy called Ready, Willing, And Able. If you havent read those, they are great.

I'm reading Blue Smoke by Nora and am not impressed. Julie Ortolon's Perfect series is wonderful. Michelle Rowen's first book Bitten and Smitten is terrific, her second will be out in July.

I never don't have books to read!

I've read everything Nora -- Mary, I wasn't in love with Blue Smoke either, ended up skimming a lot. Thankfully I got that one at the library. I love her more paranormal-ly stuff, though.

Judy, I got as far as getting The Amulet of Samarkind from the library -- oddly enough, because Miss Snark had recommended it, but didn't read it because I was overwhelmed with stuff. I'll have to go back and get it again.

Maeve Binchy bores me. Obviously she's a popular writer, so it may be just me (*yawn*).

Kelley, I haven't read any of those, so will get on the ball and see if I can find them. Thanks!

Mary, I read Julie Ortolon's "perfect" books ... very good! My problem is that I'm a VERY fast reader, so I go through material too fast and run out too soon.

Tori, never heard of that series, so will see if I can find it, too.

You guys are AWESOME!! Keep 'em coming!
