Monday Meandering

At Christmas
A man is at his finest towards the finish of the year;
He is almost what he should be when the Christmas season's here;
Then he's thinking more of others than he's thought the months before,
And the laughter of his children is a joy worth toiling for.
He is less a selfish creature than at any other time;
When the Christmas spirit rules him he comes close to the sublime...

Funky weather we're having lately. For the past four days it's been so cold that it's unbearable to be outside. Yesterday afternoon, it warmed up to about 30 degrees, and then we had a TON of wet snow... until it warmed up even more and showered us with freezing rain and rain.

Every car that drives past here crunches on the way. This doesn't bode well for non-slippery roads this morning. And I had a TON of errands planned for this a.m. dang it. Blech.

The cold made our snow from last Wednesday turn to ice, and poor Dakota cut herself running around in it yesterday morning. I couldn't let her out to play again until much later, when the "warm" melted it all into mush. Poor puppy is bouncing off the walls with energy!

The joys of winter in the northeast. I'm telling you -- if anything every happened to my DH, I'd move south and west so fast, I'd barely have time to stay for the funeral. I am SO not a snow girl.

DD and I have been watching the Santa Clause movies over the past few days. They're very cute! I want to watch "It's a Wonderful Life", too, before Christmas as well and hopefully "Miracle on 34th Street" (the original version). All great movies, IMHO. What are some of your favorite holiday movies?

Your Soul's Urge is Independence

You are a unique and bold individual. You go your own way.

You are a huge idea person. You are destined to be a pioneer in one way or another.

You stand out in any crowd just by doing your own thing. You enjoy being unconventional.

You are self-reliant, and you don't rely on anyone for anything. You have a lot of friends, even though you don't need them!

Yep -- that's pretty close to right, with a few exceptions.

Aside from the usual Christmas movies, I like the old b&w ones.

One I haven't seen in a long time, but is a great romantic comedy is 'Christmas in Connecticut' with Barbara Stanwyck. She was so good in that.

Something a little closer to how I grew up is 'A Christmas Story', with the kid who wants a pellet rifle, but everyone keeps telling him, he'll shoot his eye out.

And probably one of my all time favorites is 'The Bishop's Wife' with Cary Grant. A great family movie that makes you feel warm inside.

I think I may be the only person in the world who does not like "It's A Wonderful Life". I love the old B&W Christmoas movies and the one I rarely see on TV is "The March of the Wooden Soldiers". My favorite movies, hands down is "Miracle on 34th Street".

The other day I watched "Home Alone" and this is such a feel good movie, especially when the mom makes it home to see her son.

I don't think I could cope living in your neck of the woods!

My favorite Christmas movie is Christmas in Connecticut. :)

Awww, poor Dakota! I hope you were able to take care of your errands.
I like the offbeat Christmas movies like The Ref, Christmas with the Kranks and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. I don't like It's a Wonderful Life. Miracle on 34th St, the original, is good. As are Christmas in Connecticut, Holiday Inn and White Christmas.

I hope your day warms up and is pleasant!
