Slip, Sliding Away ....

"The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the past better than it was, the present worse than it is, and the future less resolved than it will be" - Marcel Pagnol

It's been an interesting few days. First, weather: Snow Friday -- a lot. Well over a foot. Snow Sunday -- more than they expected. Easily 6 - 7". Today? Ice, Ice Baby. Ugh.

I know spring is around the corner... I just wish it would hurry along. I keep seeing posts on Facebook about people putting in their gardens. I am green with envy.

Funny thing, though, some critter came out and ran around in the snow last night. When I took Dakota out, there were little trails everywhere! I wonder what it was, and what it was doing?

I need to take Dakota to the vet today, too, so I hope the ice changes over to rain early. It's supposed to do so after lunchtime. I won't drive in ice. Snow is bad, but ice is downright deadly.

Those of you whole are friends with me on Facebook already saw that Dakota seems to have kennel cough. She started on Saturday -- sounded like she had something stuck in her throat. But she did it over, and over, and over all day long. Then she woke me early on Sunday coughing. Though she didn't do it much the rest of the day (we kept her quiet) we need to take her in to the doctor.

Here's what kennel cough sounds like, for those of you with dogs:

Was incredibly busy all weekend, but did try to visit some of you. I'm SO behind, but am trying to work my way through the many hundreds of posts in my reader. Hopefully today I'll be able to do so.

How was your weekend?

You have an ironic view of life and yourself. When things get tough, you can get philosophical.

You are easygoing and easy to please. You love to break out of your comfort zone.

You are too much of a generalist to specialize in anything. There are many fields you dabble in.

Snow Day ... Again

All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another. ~Anatole France

NOAA says this about our weather today:

Today: Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 27. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

Tonight: Snow and freezing rain before 1am, then a chance of snow. Low around 25. Light north wind. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

I'm hoping it stays snow -- ice and freezing rain can lead to power outages, though they've downgraded the wind, thankfully, so that may alleviate the problem.

DD is supposed to "shadow" tomorrow at the private school we're looking at. That means she'll attend classes all day, following a "buddy" throughout the day. She's terrified, nervous, worried... she's had very little change in her life (same house, same friends, same parents *G*) so finds it very difficult to deal with it when it comes.

I can understand a little, though I had plenty of change growing up. We moved constantly, my mom and dad were divorced, I went to many different schools -- I seldom stayed more than a year or so at any given place. So, I learned how to deal. But change is never fun. Still, she needs to learn how to handle it.

Speaking of DD, here are a couple of her first tries at leather tooling:

For first tries, I think she did well... she's still learning, though she's run out of leather and I need to find out where to buy more (and how much it costs).

So, today we'll be pretty well house bound -- had I known this was going to start so early, I would have gone to the store. I'm out of carrots. And orange juice. I realize that doesn't sound like a tragedy, but I use them every day. *sigh*

Also, DH is staying home from work, so things here will be a bit different... oh well, guess I can handle change, too!

How's your day going?

Oh, also, I'm having trouble with my Google Reader -- it's giving me errors on about half the blogs I follow. I don't have you stored anywhere else, so if I haven't visited you recently, that's most likely why! Maybe I should keep a list elsewhere?

Monday Meandering

At Christmas
A man is at his finest towards the finish of the year;
He is almost what he should be when the Christmas season's here;
Then he's thinking more of others than he's thought the months before,
And the laughter of his children is a joy worth toiling for.
He is less a selfish creature than at any other time;
When the Christmas spirit rules him he comes close to the sublime...
~Edgar Guest

Funky weather we're having lately. For the past four days it's been so cold that it's unbearable to be outside. Yesterday afternoon, it warmed up to about 30 degrees, and then we had a TON of wet snow... until it warmed up even more and showered us with freezing rain and rain.

Every car that drives past here crunches on the way. This doesn't bode well for non-slippery roads this morning. And I had a TON of errands planned for this a.m. dang it. Blech.

The cold made our snow from last Wednesday turn to ice, and poor Dakota cut herself running around in it yesterday morning. I couldn't let her out to play again until much later, when the "warm" melted it all into mush. Poor puppy is bouncing off the walls with energy!

The joys of winter in the northeast. I'm telling you -- if anything every happened to my DH, I'd move south and west so fast, I'd barely have time to stay for the funeral. I am SO not a snow girl.

DD and I have been watching the Santa Clause movies over the past few days. They're very cute! I want to watch "It's a Wonderful Life", too, before Christmas as well and hopefully "Miracle on 34th Street" (the original version). All great movies, IMHO. What are some of your favorite holiday movies?
