The Day Before Thanksgiving...

It's sleeting. I'm on the fence as to whether that's better or worse than snow. The good news is it's supposed to change to rain the moment the sun comes up. But DH may stay home -- it's a long drive in and when the roads are iffy, it takes twice as long. This will put a huge wrench in my plans for the day.

*sigh*

Today, I'll take the girls (DD's BFF slept over last night) to my Mom's house to swim (her apt has an indoor, heated pool). Then I'll brine the turkey, make potato salad and do some other Thanksgiving Day prep.

I miss the days when I was little and the entire family would come over for Thanksgiving. It would be complete chaos, people everywhere, guys outside tossing a football around, girls inside chattering and working on dinner, kids playing tag.

My DH's family doesn't get together for a meal. Everyone eats on their own, because, "We don't want to impose." DD has never known the tradition of a kid's table. She's missed out on the joy of chaos. The first year we lived here, I invited everyone for Thanksgiving dinner. One family showed and that was all. I thought it was fun, but after that year, it was always, "We don't want to impose." or "It's too much for one person."

I wouldn't have invited you if I didn't want you to come.

*sigh*

So tomorrow, DH, DD, Mom and I will sit down to a huge meal all by ourselves. There's a gathering at the in-laws after ... to sit and talk for hours on end (oh joy) but that's it.

It just seems odd.

What about you? How do you celebrate Thanksgiving?

Greg is leaving tomorrow so we'll be celebrating Thanksgiving today.

Ref: family get togethers
I'm not really fond of them. It seemed the women did all the work and the men just sat around watching tv.

In my house, guest or husband, I put everyone to work. If you eat, I'll have a job for you.

Greg, the big sweetie, ALWAYS cleans up for me after the big meal. I never had to ask him either.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

My mom is hosting this year, but just for my and my little brother and his SO and family. My other brother invited us to their chaotic celebration (his wife has 4 siblings) but Mom is uneasy about bringing my brother's SO around them, so we're doing it small. I kinda like it small, though. Easier to talk to everyone.

I'm with you with the family get togethers. When I was a kid all the holidays used to be full of people, music, and all around fun. The last few years my mother decided to 'settle down' and the holidays became just a family thing. But still there would always be at least one family of guests. This year. I'm spending Thanksgiving with my mom and her boyfriend. She's not making a big dinner as she always used to. It's rather sad and lonely this year. I can't wait to have these holidays over with this year.

We'll be having a family get-together. We do it every year on Thanksgiving (and Easter, too) Either mom hosts or I do. I would love one year if we could all hang together than go out to eat somewhere then come back home for more football, etc. I know when I'm hosting, I'm exhausted by the end of the day due to all the cleaning, prep and cooking.

Our Thanksgiving is just us-the kids and Chris and I. We're always invited to SIL's, but we got in the habit of it just being us when Chris was in the military and we found we like it compared to the chaos of having to travel from house to house to house, which is what MIL would prefer. Ugh. We'll watch the parades, start cooking, play some soccer and have a fine meal wrap it up with a movie or two sitting in the LR. Sounds like a great day to me. *g*

These days the big family crowd thing just gets on my nerves. But we had lots of fun when I was a kid.

We normally go to my mom's foster sister house for Thanksgiving. The one thing I remember fondly from Thanksgiving past is moving up to the adult table after sitting at the kids table for too too long.

Before I took the quiz, I knew exactly what my color would be.

Your Color is Blue

You are a calm and content person. You find that the key to life is easy... just be yourself!

You believe in the importance of letting go. You release your anxieties and welcome renewal.

You are a generous person, and you look for the best of people. You promote peace and trust.

You value intellect and experience. Unlike most people, you truly respect your elders.

Very accurate

Happy Thanksgiving!
