Ups and Downs

It's good to have money and the things that money can buy, but it's good, too, to check up once in a while and make sure that you haven't lost the things that money can't buy.

No writing yesterday. :-(

I did get about half my edits done on Liv -- this set is easy, peasey. At least so far. I did have to laugh, tho. I was helping Michele on one of her short stories and talked about the whole "stand up" or "sit down" -- that those end words are implied and not necessary.

Guess what my editor caught THREE times so far? "Squat/ted down". As if you can "squat up"? Made me laugh. We can sure see it in others, but not in ourselves, hmmm?

==========================

My DD has been reading about Greek and Roman mythology lately. She's enjoying the stories (they're a big soap opera, who wouldn't enjoy them?), but has struggled with pronoucing the names something fierce. Oedipus was one ("He married his mother!?!"), but she said one last night that had me in stitches: Aphrododo™.

I laughed, and laughed and then after I came up for air and looked at her puzzled little face I said, "Aphro-DYE-TEE". She nodded. And I wrote her original word down. Because I'm using that somewhere in some bit of writing. So, I'm trademarking it -- you can't have it. LOL...

I'm still laughing.

When teenage boys get famous and unbelievably rich, we get to see the inner workings of teen boys' heads everywhere. And inside those teen boys' heads, two things are prominent: 'I like video games; no, I LOVE video games' and 'Chicks dig palaces.' Bow Wow and Aaron Carter both have a little bit of that Elvis in Graceland vibe going on; the palatial, richly decorated home where almost every room is a Game Room. Maybe if you get unbelievably rich some day, you guys can compare notes.
Um.... no.

SO "no" it's not funny. Games? Good grief. I'm probably the only person in NH who doesn't own a gaming system of any kind. Palatial? No... richly decorated? Please. Give me a modest house with my own office and I couldn't care less about the rest.

You?

I'm the Osbornes. Um, okay. We actually do have a Playstation II in our house but it rarely gets used. My husband is into gaming but he does it on his computer. For me, a rousing game of Bejeweled is about as action packed as I get.

Well, at least you're editing and that's often times harder than writing so kudos to you.

I used to do the stand up sit down thing all the time. I never even knew until I had an editor. Silly me.

I was editing my book last night and was surprised to see I could delete the word that in several places. I'd just told an unpublished writer to go thru her ms. and delete that when possible. I thought I had this conquered. LOL

I am Jason whoeverheis and the whole quiz is WAAAY over my head becasue I don't watch tv and haven't a clue who any of these people are and I just quite suddenly got an idea for NanannanOOO (whatever the heck it is) but I'm not sure I can crank out a novel due to the fact that I might fill it with unnecesary words and run-on sentences. And maybe fragments too.

"You know the dude from Rushmore? He one time went on MTV Cribs to show everybody the pup tent he had going on inside his apartment; it was strung with Christmas lights and had a guitar amp inside or something. And as weird as that might sound, it did kind of appeal to that urge we all get sometimes: the urge to get small, y'all. Building forts and decking them out any crazy way we feel like is the ultimate act of coziness. Even if you prefer a supersize fort (like say, your whole bedroom), there's still something to say for going with a fort theme -- just following your own random design whims, and making it unmistakably yours. If it's good enough for Jason, it's good enough for us."

My DS loved and still loves myths from those times.

Aphrododo was priceless...

Aphrododo, huh? Just call her Venus. It's easier. *g*

On the quiz, I got Jason Schwartzman. I've never heard of him and don't want to be him, thanks all the same.

Cute of your dd! I'd write that one down and keep it. Could come in handy in the future, say if she ever decides to major in Classical Studies or something!

I have sat down/stood up on my check list that I go through before I send a book in. I just realized I never did have time to go through the list on the book I did this summer. Good thing I never reread my own books or I probably would be cringing!

Oh yeah, the Greek myths are great. Actually, I'm using the Oedipus storyline in one of my next novels...it's so, so juicy.

Awww, I always loved the old Roman myths! Love your Daughers name for Aphrodite. *g*
Sorry about the writing yesterday.
I'm the Osbornes too. Too, too weird. Oh, and you're not the only parent without a gaming system!

Have a good evening!

Everyone has a love- I don't need games- but I need a house FULL of books. Books everywhere. No books and I get itchy.
