Too Much

"Difficult times have helped me to understand better than before how infinitely rich and beautiful life is in every way, and that so many things that one goes worrying about are of no importance whatsoever." — Isak Dinesen

So... Monday I had a little breakdown because I'm so overwhelmed with "stuff". By the end of the day, when I still had laundry to put away, dishes to do, things that needed doing in my business in box, a daughter who wanted some MOM time, tax stuff that needed organizing.... I could go on, but I won't -- I just sat down and wanted to cry.

Yesterday, I decided I had to take a break. I couldn't keep up the pace and survive... so I slowed down. I gave myself permission to NOT do things and not feel guilty about it. It mostly worked. Yes, I'm backed up worse than ever today, but it was nice to have at least a few minutes to do whatever I WANTED to do yesterday and not what I HAD to do.

And now, I need to figure out a way to do that more often. I have to decide what I can stop doing on a permanent basis, because when the weather is nicer, there will be hours each day that I'll be spending outside, hours I'll want to spend with my daughter, hours I'll want to spend walking, weeding, planting, enjoying.

How do I remove things from my list, though, when I know people count on me? That is the question of the day... But I'll figure it out.

What do you do when you're overwhelmed?

You Are Meatloaf

You are old fashioned and traditional. In fact, you'd go as far as to call yourself retro.

You have a strong appreciation for the classics, especially forgotten classics. Why try to invent the wheel?

You prefer well established restaurants with menus that don't change. An old diner is right up your alley.

You're also the type most likely to always order the same thing. Why mess with perfection?

Yep.. that's me!

I love it that you took a step back. That ususally works wonders for me! Hope you get things figured out.

Spring's just around the corner...

So great that you got your seed. I've ordered ours from Burpee and I can't wait to get the package. Love this time of year!

My guess is you have a little OCD going. Welcome to the club.

I found out the world doesn't come to an end if the laundry isn't put away or if the dishes aren't washed.

Let it go. And then ASK for help. I know your hubby and daughter would love to help you if they knew it would make you feel better. It's not like you ask all the time--or even at all.

Take a day off. Take the week off. Do only what YOU alone can do, like write your books.

And then gather the troops for one big clean-up.

Maria beat me to it, I was going to suggest that you take a week off as in a vacation from all your daily chores. Make it about You. Is there something you want to do and haven't done lately? Make an appointment and do it. Change your view. Take a trip.

When I'm at that stage, I escape by traveling, reading, going to the movies or shutting everyone out.

I hope the rest of your week is better.

Delegate some stuff that others can do. You do so much for everyone. I'm glad you took a break and maybe you can schedule some time on a regular basis for you and cut some things out.

Take care.

I tend to start in with the overwhelmed feeling around 4:00pm when I'm just getting around to project _______ and realizing that I have to table the whole thing because these people who live with me need to eat. (The nerve of them!) So I start piling up every undone task in mind and the weight becomes almost unbearable. Then a little voice reminds me of Matthew 6:33-34,

"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Then I take a deep breath (sometimes several!) and turn it over to God. If there's anything else that MUST be done today, I ask Him for the strength and time to do it. Everything else goes to tomorrow. And when I awaken the next morning, I usually find myself much better able to cope.

You need some time each day just for you, to pamper yourself. It doesn't have to be a huge chunk of time, just enough for you to take time to breathe. My guess is you don't ask for help, that you think you have to do everything by yourself because you're the only one who can do it correctly. Am I close? Please take care of you.

Wishing you a blessed day.
