Later that day...

"Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work." — Stephen King

Okay, I came, I wrote, I surpassed my goal.

I have a grand total of 3,128 words. That's the joy of having the scene already figured out in your brain. My plan is to get at least a third of the 50,000 words done in the first week... because the second week is a killer. Always has been. And, yeah, maybe I set myself up for it by thinking that way, but if I'm well ahead then it's not going to hurt much one way or the other.

One thing popped up in my story, though, that was unexpected. While Sunny was putting something away in the garage, she noticed that the place was packed to the gills with boxes. Keep in mind, Sunny hasn't been home in nearly 15 years, so these are all from her deceased mother.

What is in all those boxes? Sunny and I both want to know. I haven't a clue.

Any thoughts?

So far we've met Sunny, her best friend, Mirabelle, her nemesis, Tiffany and ... Spence. Our hero.

============================

For all you NaNo-ers out there: how's it going?

=============================

It's still dark out, but I'm waiting to see if my bird feeders are still in one piece. I left them out overnight for the first time, hoping the bears have settled in for their long winters nap. But, when I took Dd out to potty at about midnight, there was some loud rustling in the woods... Dd got all puffed and growly (she's so tough... ha), and I really hope it was a fisher cat or some other nocturnal creature, and not a bear.

Guess I'll find out in 45 mins or so.

Have a great day!

What a great start! And all before the sun has even come up!

In those boxes... letters? recipes? newsclippings (a beauty contest she had won that she had never told her daughter about? an engagement she had never talked about?), pictures?

Good luck!

Woo hoo! What a wonderful start! Sounds like you've got a good handle on this novel. I can't wait to hear what's in those boxes.

Off to begin writing. I'm so excited! :)

Wow - you wrote a lot. I can't imagine writing that much in such a short period of time. I'm so impressed.

My jaw dropped when I saw your word count!!! Wowser! That's awesome!

My beginning wasn't as bright. I'm up to 490 words. My DH got up shortly after I did (about 4:30 too). And of course now I'm stuck here at work for the entire day. I'll be writing through my breaks.

I love boxes. Funny, my heroine will have an attic and cellar full of stuff left over from the previous owner. I always wanted to buy a house full of stuff like that.

Keep going!! You are awesome motivation!

I'm up to 1494, but I started later than you did. I think I'll cap 5,000 before the day is over. 5,000 words equals one dose of chocolate truffles!

In those boxes? There should definitely be some surprising love letters...and maybe some never before seen baby clothes. Perhaps some unusual postcards from a penpal in Japan - bonus points if he was a sumo wrestler. In which case a few of the boxes could hold sumo souveniers.

OK...back to writing. Pete Sr. is awake and he's frighteningly angry!

Good for you! I'm at 1358 right now, but just got back from the grocery store and I'm ready to write again.

So, what's the verdict? Bears or no bears?

3,296 and romance has crept in as smart, witty, and gorgeous Kelly Winwood (aka, the babysitter) has just witnessed smitten teen Dell Carlson being bested by his 6 year-old brother in a wrestling match.

Oh it just gets betterer and betterer!

The boxes...How bout strange weapons? Hand guns? Knives with odd markings. Swords?

Maybe roller derby uniforms?

an old sneaker collection? (Maybe mom had an odd sneaker fettish and could never convince herself to get rid of her old ones.)

3,296 jellybeans?

seed packets. What would happen if Sunny plants them?

Hair wads. (Now why are THOSE there???)

Congrats on your day 1 (I followed you over from Mary's blog to see how you did, since you spurred her on and she spurred me on! :))
