I had a real prejudice against historicals and paranormals at one time, until someone turned me on to Beverly Jenkins and J.R. Ward. Now that's all changed.

But I must confess that I still have issues with urban/street lit. It's going to take a lot to change my mind on that genre.

I was the same way about paranormals. Still not interested in some...but I've opened my mind up to some if well written. Great guest blog, Jennifer!

Oh, the horrors! I have at least 3 books on my shelf, given to me in kindness by sisters and friends... I've learned to live with who I am, so will they.

I did join a book club and have forced myself to read 4 books that are out of my norm. I can't quit the group for fear of becoming the book snob. Since joining I've read a couple books that have surprised me. The Road...surprisingly compelling. Confessions of a Master Jewel Thief...utterly fascinating.

Reading outside my norm helps me appreciate the norm, even if I've liked the book. :) Maybe some day I'll lose that fear, too.

Did I miss a post? How are the words coming along. You can do it! I know you can.

I admit I have read books outside of my 'romance' realm only when I absolutely needed to, such as books for English/French modules for university. Some I wouldn't have read at all if I wasn't to be examined on, and some, well, have surprised me. Some I've devoured, and some I now recommend to others.

I try to check some non-fiction books now, but it has to be about a topic that appeals to me. I recently got hooked on a series of books about Mauritian history, which my uncle raved about. I started reading just to be able to discuss the themes with him, then found how interesting it really was.
