Giving Up The Ghost

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once. ~Jennifer Yane

I've fought the good fight... and lost.

I just can't finish NaNo this year... DH has chores scheduled for us the rest of his days off, (he's working only five more days this month). Yesterday, we finished sticking the tile down -- now the adhesive stuff has to dry before it's grouted. Then the grout has to dry before it's sealed. We also put down about 3/4 of the hardwood in the foyer thingie. The house is a disaster area (dust EVERY-FREAKING-WHERE) and Dakota may be traumatized for life because the smoke alarms kept going off due to the dust. She did not know what to do... so she ran around the house barking. The cat was smart enough to hide the entire day. But Dd got so freaked out that she started shying away from everything and everyone. I couldn't touch her unless I sat on the floor quietly and let her come to me.

So, between day-to-day life and the LASR website, I am only able to find a few moments a day to write. I can manage a couple hundred words, but not thousands.

Amy said she'd be up for a NaNo in January. Jen said she and a friend were doing one in March. I'm fairly certain DH will NOT be taking off 23 freaking days in either of those months. Anyone else interested in a private NaNo in either of those months? And, heck, it'll give me December to do some drastic editing on "Return to Stiller Creek", ramp up the suspense a bit more and add some more heat, and submit to another publisher I'm eyeballing -- HQ again, but a different line.

I'm also trying to work my way through Dynamic Learning Dreamweaver CS3, which makes my head hurt. But, doggone it, I'm a pretty smart chick... I should be able to figure it out.

Next year, I will FORCE DH to take vacation throughout the year so this does not ever EVER happen again.

How was your Saturday? LOL...

You Are a Bran Muffin

Some people have accused you of being all work and no play. And that does describe you most of the time.

You are very career oriented. When you're not working making money, you're working to improve yourself.

You have very little room in your life for fluff. You want to live as good of a life as possible.

You are competitive and driven. You like to surround yourself with other motivated people.

While you are a go-getter, you are by no means self centered. Quite the opposite.

You are a caring, together, and stable friend. You are grounded enough to be there for people.

Um... yeah... that's pretty much spot on. Huh.

Hey, life happens. I (obviously) don't think you need to do NaNo in November just b/c everyone else is. Pick another month and go for it.

I'm in for January. :)

Bet your floors are going to look gorgeous!

Oh, I hate all that construction dust, too. Hugs to the Dd.

Saturday afternoon we watched tree limbs snap and searched the sky for tornadoes. Thankfully we didn't see any but the wind sure was scary.

Hoping for calm today. Supposed to get snow, which is better than wind. Maybe.

I'm a blueberry muffin

You are a nurturing, domestic, homey person.

Of all the types, you are the most likely to make your own muffins at home.

You don't like to rock the boat, and you're most content when you're making everyone else happy.

You are very loyal. You'll defend your family and friends, even if you secretly disapprove of what they're doing.

You tend to be a bit shy and withdrawn. You don't make friends quickly or easily. But once you do make a good friend, the chances are high that you'll be friends for life.

Sorry to hear about NaNo, but hey, you made the effort and now you have the makings of a really good story. No one says it has to be done this month.

I've not thought of doing NaNo another month. Hmmm.. same rules?

I was thinking I needed a "Get The Novel You're Working On Done In A Month" challenge. (GTNYWODIAM-doesn't have the same ring)

I wouldn't worry, sometimes life gets in the way of a well-planned event. I like the idea that you can do NaNo in a different month.

re: quiz, I'm a bran muffin and it's more or less me.

So I can come to you with my Dreamweaver Questions?

I'm working my way through the Adobe CS2 programs. I've done a class on Photoshop, and InDesign (where has this been all my digi-scrapbooking life?), and now am working my way through Illustrator class. I've got Dreamweaver and Premiere Pro on tap after I digest all of this.

Oh, and I have to learn how to use Expression Engine. Talk about something that makes your brain hurt...

My Hubs has 13 weeks of vacation saved up. I told him if he took off more than one week a month and we didn't have something, like a trip, planned...there would be WORDS.

Does he go back to work soon?

NaNo isn't all its cracked up to be. You're already more productive than anyone else I know...

And Dreamweaver is really very easy once you start using it--it's the user's manuals that are hard. Just keep slogging through and sit down at the computer and mess around a bit with an offline web site, and you'll start saying "Aha!" right and left. And the nature of the beast with web programming is that sometimes you have to play around a bit to find out why something doesn't work--something tiny like the order of phrases can totally screw up a page, or forgetting a quotation mark can throw an entire page off--because computers are so darn literal.

And, I hate to make you quake in your boots, but DW CS4 just came out. My copy just arrived, but I haven't installed it yet.

Waving hands! I'd be up for a NaNo. Let me know when and I'll see where I am project wise. With your spreadsheet it would be easy to set up and with our blogs easy to keep track of each other and cheer for one another.

If it's any consolation, I've never finished a NaNo. So don't sweat it!

Sorry to hear about NaNo for you. Dh's have a tendency to mess up our plans, don't they?
Poor Dd. I hope she calms down soon.
Re quiz: I'm a blueberry muffin. YUM! Ok. *G*

November has always seemed like an awful month for NaNo. Not only does it have only 30 days, but there's Thanksgiving right at the end. Clearly, the original NaNo organizers did not have to host Thanksgiving. Nor do they have your DH to deal with.

Sounds like there might be a good group of people ready for something after the first of the year -- go for it!

P.S. I think Ceri might be on to something...
