Yesterday was NOT a banner day in this household. DH went out on the boat... fishing... early...
And then he called me at 10:15 a.m. and said he was pulling off the lake. What? Why? The sun was just coming out, it was finally getting nice...
Because the engine on the boat seized and he had to be towed in.
WHAT?
Yes folks, the one thing my DH loves above all else (beside DD and I, presumably, but there is occasionally some doubt regarding that, lol) is broken. Beyond repair. It must be replaced. The engine. Yes... really.
You don't want to know the cost of that. And, so, with a heavy heart, DH began to winterize the boat because there is no way short of a lottery win we can afford to fix it any time soon.
It was a sad, sad day in NH.

Amy, you asked how DD handled the pillar's death. She did pretty well... I honestly thing the whole burial thing makes it easier somehow. Closure, maybe? It also helped that we had a butterfly to release on the same day. We have one other pillar--a very, very tiny one that we hatched from an egg--who doesn't appear to be thriving, so we may lose pillar #2.
Otherwise, though, we've had a remarkably healthy group, despite the low numbers. I have to admit that the fact we've been unable to locate many eggs or babies is concerning to me. Last year, we had all we could want. I've seen very few actual butterflies as well. Seems very odd.

Last day to enter the "Kitchen Matches" contest! Come on ... why wouldn't you want a free copy of "Kitchen Matches" and an Amazon.com gift certificate? Every one has messed up in the kitchen at least once, right?
Remember to come back tomorrow folks... the stories I've received will be posted for YOU to vote on!
Still... I want more, more, more!!

What Your Pizza Reveals |
People may tell you that you have a small appetite... but you aren't under eating. You just aren't a pig. You are a very picky pizza eater. Not any pizza will do. You fit in best in the Northeast part of the US. Your taste is rather complex and sophisticated. You consider yourself a gourmet - and a bit of a snob. You are generous, outgoing, and considerate with your choices. You have many conflicting and complementary layers to your personality. You should consider traveling to Australia. The stereotype that best fits you is hippie. You knew it was coming. |
HIPPIE??? LOL... but I'm good with going to Australia.

I'm sorry DH's boat has to be winterized. Where does he store the boat? Does that mean he'll be home more on the weekends?

You like food that's traditional and well crafted. You aren't impressed with "gourmet" foods.
You are generous, outgoing, and considerate with your choices.
You are unadventurous and boring. You should consider staying home when taking a vacation.

Happy Saturday.
Huh, I got "Hippie", too, but was told to travel to Vienna.
Hugs on DH on the boat engine. That whomps.
I'm glad DD handled it okay. I always think about 9 and how he'd do in that situation. Um, let's just say, we WON'T be building Pillar Place here. He couldn't handle the death. Not even one.
Your appetite is pretty average. You don't go overboard - but you don't deprive yourself either.
You aren't particularly picky about pizza. It's so good... how could you be? You fit in best in the Western part of the US.
Your taste is rather complex and sophisticated. You consider yourself a gourmet - and a bit of a snob.
You are dependable, loyal, and conservative with your choices.
You are cultured and intellectual. You should consider traveling to Vienna.
The stereotype that best fits you is guy or girl next door. Hey, there's nothing wrong with being average.
Average and Vienna. I can live with that.

You consider pizza to be bread... very good bread. You fit in best in the Midwest part of the US.

The stereotype that best fits you is geek. You're the type most likely to order pizza to avoid leaving your computer.
Wow, that is true! Sorry, I don't know how to do the italics thing. Guess I'm not that much of a geek.
Sorry about the engine! He must be heartbroken.
I'd enter your contest but my story isn't that funny. It's kind of ...bluck.
back to editing...
Sorry to hear about the boat.
And glad to hear that DD handled the death of the pillar so well. You're right in that the funeral probably helped.
I hope you have a better Sunday than Saturday!
