Booking It With Friends and Family?

A good book is always on tap; it may be decanted and drunk a hundred times, and it is still there for further imbibement. ~ Holbrook Jackson

If it's Thursday, I must be Booking It!

Booking It Through Thursday

There was a widely bruited-about statistic reported last week, stating that 1 in 4 Americans did not read a single book last year. Clearly, we don’t fall into that category, but . . . how many of our friends do? Do you have friends/family who read as much as you do? Or are you the only person you know who has a serious reading habit?

My mom and my daughter read as much (well...lately...it's far more) than I do. Most of my siblings read, at least a little. My husband doesn't read much beyond the newspaper and technical manuals, which I find very sad. Some of my in-laws read, but not many -- it wasn't a highly encouraged activity for my husband's family, which is probably why he's not a reader. How sad. They didn't have pets, either. ((shakes head))

Pretty much all of my friends read - though not always the same genre as I. My best friend, Cathy, always has a book with her -- typically Dean Koontz or Stephen King. She's a big mystery / horror fan.

I can't imagine not reading as a regular habit. Apparently most of the folks I hang out with feel the same!

Some of my daughters read a lot. One sister reads all the time but she's retired. My husband reads very little because he's a slow reader. That's why he teaches Math. LOL But he's read my first two books and has started my mainstream, NEVER THE SAME, so I'm impressed.

Topaz is my birthstone and I hope I have the qualities of this gemstone.

I'm lookng forward to reading your short story - thanks!

Hi Marianne, thanks for your comment. It really means a lot :)

My husband used to like reading books, but now it's down to just magazines and newspapers.

My birthstone is topaz too :)

Hurray for book addicts! ^_^

Happy BTT, Marianne!

And I took the quiz... I'm a topaz, too!

My husband is a technical book addict too, but he also loves the fiction. And he reads tech books in much the same way I read various non-fiction books, so I see it as much the same thing.

Your family is almost similar to mine *grin*, and I guess even though they do read just a little, at lease they're not shutting out reading all together *grin*

You're lucky your friends read, mine does not at all ...

Thanks for visiting my blog, Happy Booking Through Thursday!

All of my family reads. Well, we read to the youngest. Hubby's more into non-fiction, but he relaxes before bed by reading a chapter or two of his book in progress.

I have friends who read and some how don't. Just depends on them.

My dad doesn't read anything but the newspaper. Mom reads a fair amount, but not as much as I do.

On the quiz, I got:

Your Gemstone is Ruby
Daring, enthusiastic, and spontaneous.
You are energetic and passionate, with an appetite for life.

Which works out well since it's also my birthstone. *g* Not sure it's accurate but what the heck? :)

I'm with you! Most of my friends read and I can't imagine anyone NOT having this particular habit. =)

I couldn't imagine not reading. Hubs reads technical books and sci-fi/fantasy. Daughter reads anything she can get her hands on and Son is just started to get interested in books that he can do on his own.

As for the quiz, I received Amber. (Which I will take over my real birthstone ANY DAY!)

Hope your week is going great!

Hi Marianne! It's good to know your mom and your daughter read! Mine don't, and since my daughter is still young, I'm hoping to influence her by reading lots of nursery rhymes and story books to her now, hehe. ;P

Happy reading!

I didn't even think about genre. My husband tends to read non fiction. Some of my other friends are more into science fiction than I am. Happy BTT.

Hi Marianne, I can't imagine not reading as a regular habit too. My family and friends often go "WHOA!" whenever they see my bookshelves. It's only a small, small collection compared to other book lovers. But then again, I have a lifetime to collect them. LOL.

Happy Friday!

Wow... you really inspired a lot of reading talk today! Yeah!

We all read, too. All the time!

I come from a family of readers and aspiring writers...but like you, my husband's reading is limited, though it's largely because he has little time, and reads very slowly, not from lack of desire.

I hope you don't mind, but I like your blog, so I'm adding you to my blogroll.
