Happy Tuesday!
We had a crazy weekend, made crazier by the fact that I managed to catch a cold last week that knocked me perhaps not flat, but at least sideways.
Amongst other things, DD and Dakota had a Junior Agility competition on Saturday. It was a very small showing of kids (only three kids and four dogs) so it passed quickly (for which I was grateful). DD did pretty well. though she had her first "NQ" (non-qualifying) round because Dakota got distracted by something and wouldn't come back on course, and Sarah grabbed her. You can't touch your dog in real agility, so was DQ'd (disqualified).
Their absolute fave run was the Tunnel Game, because it's just running -- though Dakota missed one of the tunnels (it's actually a handler error, but it was minor):
Her next fave is "Dealer's Choice" because your dog can't make a wrong move -- there is no set course. It's all about points -- each obstacle is worth a certain amount of points, and the person with the most points at the end wins.
However, between being sick and not at the top of my game, it being the first of the month (which is a nightmare for me), and being gone most of Friday and Saturday, work has backed up terribly, and I'm completely and massively behind.
I'm beginning to think this will be the usual for me anymore -- something that is very stressful for a Type A person.
The "good" news for me is that it's raining and will be through Wednesday, so I can work on my computer without feeling guilty for not being outside. It does make the dog a little nuts, but we'll manage.
I should be able to make time to visit blogs for a little while today. I won't be able to get to them all, but will do my best!
Have a great day. :-)

Here!
I'm alive.
I feel awful for not having blogged in so long, and am going to make a concerted effort to find time to do so regularly again. The biggest thing, I think, is that I simply don't have time to do it in the mornings so I'll need to rearrange my brain patterns, and start doing it in the afternoon or evening.
Yes, I'm still buried with work, insanely behind and treading water. It's one of those double-edged swords. I'm thrilled to be this busy, on the one hand, but would sure love ten minutes to take a breath.
I did manage to get my garden in (more detailed post later) because the weather's been gorgeous here. But other than that it's all work, all the time. My house is frighteningly unclean (though I finally broke down and mopped yesterday afternoon because, ugh).
I haven't blog-hopped, I haven't spent much time on Facebook (though I'm there at least a little bit daily -- I need a small fix of my friends!). I MISS you guys.
I think summer will help. I lose nearly three hours a day in drive time for the kidlet taking her to and from school. Next year, assuming she's accepted to the new school (we had our final interview last week and the board is meeting to review applications soon -- we were told there were, for the first time, more applicants than there were spots to fill, but that DD's "resume" is pretty impressive, and we shouldn't worry about her chances too much) it's only a 12 minute drive (in non-snow weather) AND I won't have to wait in a line to pick her up (which takes me almost 30 mins every afternoon).
We'll see. Honestly, I'm not entirely certain what the answer is. I do know I'm losing my mind just a little bit.

What Day is It?
It's been an interesting week. DH has stayed home every day, and might again today. DD has been off. We've all been under the weather, though I admit to being surprised that DH stayed home yesterday. He looked like he was feeling better -- maybe he's just sick of work?
I can't remember what day it is either, with all the weirdness going on.
I'm recovering, but am still pretty congested and run down. Hate being sick. The worst part so far wat that it was warm and sunny out yesterday (50 degrees, in New England, in February!) and I couldn't get out and enjoy it much.
Otherwise, I'm just working. I've been buried in work, and am trying desperately to dig out of the pile. It's one of those double-edged swords: it's wonderful we're busy, but Judy and I (and the ladies who help us) are drowning a bit.
Speaking of, I need to get back to work. Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Okay .. ha... that was spot on.

How Can It Be Wednesday?
Hey all! ::waves madly::
It's been a crazy few days, and I apologize for my absence. I took the day off working (mostly) on Sunday to watch football and I paid for it on Monday. Not only was I up until REALLY late (Overtime! And, I'm still sad about those Niners... *sigh*) and insanely tired Monday, but our woodstove had gone out and I had to start it from scratch Monday morning (and Tuesday). This stove burns like a champ when it's going, but getting it started is a major undertaking. I only just managed to get it done before I had to wake the kidlet up for school.
Then, I had to pay penance for taking Sunday off -- my inboxes were crazy full of work. We truly do live in a 24/7 society. Judy and I will occasionally get emails from folks like, "I sent you an email three hours ago -- why haven't you responded?". I'm sorry, but occasionally I do things like sleep. Crazy.
Yesterday, the stove was out again, and was even harder to start because it was warm (for us -- about 35 degrees!) outside -- it's harder to generate a draft when it's warm out. I barely got it done before I had to leave to take the kidlet to school.
Today, the stove was still burning (YAY!) and I decided to take the time to say hello.
Hello. :-D
Haven't done much, writing-wise, though I have been brainstorming a cover for "Now and Forever" with Judy, who will design it for me. I can't decide if I want it to look a little like "Kitchen Matches" since it IS the sequel (despite not being with the same publisher) or if I want to take an entirely different direction...
Otherwise, it's pretty much work, work, work. We had hoped that switching over the LASR website would give us a little more time, but that hasn't happened yet. Someday I might get at least some of my life back...
After some discussion with my mom, after losing her dog, we went to the shelter on Friday and selected an older kitty for her. Having a dog is a LOT of work, much like having a toddler around FOREVER, and she wasn't up for that again. But once you've had pets around, it's difficult to NOT have them. I think we have a pet shaped spot in our hearts that needs to be filled.
She wanted an older, female cat that wouldn't need excessive amounts of grooming and that was sweet, and loved to sit in your lap. She certainly got that! Her new kitty, now named Camille, won't leave her alone!
She choose Camille because she was older (ten years old) and black (shelters have a terrible time finding homes for black cats -- black dogs, too, but that's another story). Meet Camille:

She's the sweetest thing, loving, calm, funny. She's quite well-behaved and Mom really enjoys having her around.
And now I need to get back to work. I tried to visit some of you yesterday and will attempt to catch up today. I really, really need a 48 hour day.

Yep, that's me, only I hate nightgowns...

The Fates Are Conspiring ...
Welcome to my pity party.
It's November 4th and my NaNoWriMo total is a big, fat goose egg.
There are a million reasons why. The "day job" is killing me. DH is home. Yadda yadda.
Really, aside from that I don't have a lot else to say. I'm surviving on coffee and very little sleep and still don't have enough hours in the day to do the things I'm being paid to do. I haven't done anything around my house but the dishes in a week. The cat is vomiting again -- we're going to the vet on Monday. Maybe my house is toxic. I have the agility fun match on Sunday ... I considered skipping, but my daughter and the instructor nearly cried.
Today, I'm taking a notepad with me when I pick up the kidlet. I have about ten minutes while I wait in line that I can at least jot something down. I'm not the kind of writer who can write in ten minute bursts, though. I need to reread what I have done, get absorbed in the story again, before I really get words down.
And that's my life.
Wishing you all a great weekend with electricity and beautiful weather (wishing it for me and mine as well *G*).

Rambling
How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world. ~Anne Frank
Craziness abounds!
I spent yesterday working on book video creation. I've been inundated with requests to make them, which has been a "good news / bad news" thing. I skipped agility both nights to try to blast through the backlog and got several done. I still have seven more, but I'm getting there.
We're planning a massive overhaul of the LASR/WC site in order to make it better for the reader, but less labor intensive for us. The problem is, I need time for that and I'm so backlogged, I have none. But Judy and I would like at least a little of our lives back, so that's what we're working toward. Currently, if we're breathing, we're working and that's just a little crazy.
On a related note -- while most of the authors we work with are absolutely wonderful, occasionally we get a rotten apple. It's amazing how unprofessional some folks can be and it really makes working myself to the bone for nearly nothing a difficult task. It's sad how a few bad apples can spoil everything. But I'm so grateful for the 99.9% of authors who are just amazing.
My mom got to participate in one of DD's meltdowns yesterday. My poor daughter is SO emotional and sensitive. She always has been, but being this close to puberty is just exacerbating the problem. Poor kiddo...
Today, I'm gathering together a care package of self-care items for the Salvation Army. Every week I get free or nearly free toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, etc. And really, who needs 50 tubes of toothpaste on hand at any given time? Especially when I replenish the supply so regularly? For those who snicker at folks who coupon, for the merchants who get irritated at us, for people who call us "hoarders", THIS is why I do what I do. Not only do I save my family money, and we never have to run out of the things we need, but I can help others.
So, yes, my linen closet is full of 30 sticks of deodorant. I have every kind of razor known to man. My DH could wash his hair daily for the next year and have enough shampoo. I'm proud of my stockpile. And I'm even more glad I can share my bounty with others.
And now ... I have to go wake up the family, so I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

A Crisp Monday Morning!
When the bee comes to your house, let her have beer; you may want to visit the bee's house some day. ~Congo Proverb
Happy Monday! Here, it's very happy -- because it's COOLED DOWN. Even yesterday was a little cooler than the four days prior, thankfully, but today they're even saying it might rain! HALLALUJAH! My garden is dying, my flowers are dying, my grass has burned spots. Yes, we water, but it's been so hot, you water and 20 minutes later everything is dust dry again. The heat and humidity were just brutal -- so much so that my DH actually discussed getting a small window A/C. That's the first time he's done so. And although we didn't actually GET a window A/C, his almost caving tells you how hot it really was.
But we survived.
It made it difficult to work, however. On Friday, my only "alone" day (a day when I usually get the most done), my computer kept getting so hot that it burned the heels of my hands if I tried to work very long (and, yes, I have a laptop cooler). I got almost nothing accomplished.
Saturday, my friend Michele came up (YAY!) and we hung out all day. We went to see the movie "Thor" at our nearby cheap movie theater that plays the older stuff. It was surprisingly good and fun. It doesn't hurt that the guy who plays Thor is just gorgeous (he has that twinkle in his eye, too, that I'm such a sucker for) and has one sweet Australian accent. Yum. I wasn't a huge fan of the ending, insofar as the "romance" went, but otherwise it gets a thumbs-up from me.
Yesterday, my DH was in a bit of a tear, so DD and I spent the morning cleaning (apparently the house was a mess ... who knew?) and then we did our couponing. It was a good haul. I got hair bands, ball point pens, tampons, toothpaste, and mouth rinse for free. I got a toothbrush for better than free (earned $.50). I got razor blade refills that were marked $21.00 (for SIX!!!) for $6.50, cereal for under $1 a box and shampoo/conditioner for $0.69 a bottle.
I have so much toothpaste now, I'm looking for a women's shelter to donate to. But I can't pass up "free", yanno? It's a disease...
After lunch, DH left to help a friend work on his truck. DD made some jewelry (she had a custom order request) and I worked. I FINALLY got the website pages built for LASR/WC and edited the reviews for next week. It was a close thing, lol...
Oh! For those of you not on Facebook, you have to check out this cool bug we found walking on the table yesterday:

He was SO COOL... all spiky butt and stripey legs. I was fascinated. I picked him up and put him outside near the milkweed -- assuming, based on his coloration that he had something to do with milkweed (most milkweed bugs are black and orange -- the monarch, the tussock moth pillar, etc).
After some discussion on Facebook, I'm pretty sure he's the nymph of the milkweed assassin bug (photo borrowed from the website I just linked to):

I posted the picture up on What's That Bug? to find out for sure.
So far, that's the coolest bug we've seen. Yeah, I like bugs...
Today, DD is going to hang out with her grandma for part of the day. They'll sew, maybe swim and just generally enjoy being together.
How was your weekend?

Answers and Ambling
Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it. ~Russel Baker
Yesterday, Brandy asked: So CVS and Walgreens don't mind you stacking coupons?
I can't use two manufacturers coupons, but I *can* use a store coupon with a manufacturers coupon. The register returns, up rewards, etc., are also considered manufacturers coupons, so I have to make sure I buy enough stuff that I can use them -- usually if you aren't getting everything free, they don't care.
And Angelina said: Can you be my personal shopper? I'm really bad at finding deals, and I never remember to bring coupons.
I actually use a couple of couponing sites (via Facebook) who help "match up" coupons with deals, and I clip nearly every coupon out of my flyers weekly. Even if I don't think I'd use it (like the one I have ... and forgot to use... for Blink eye drops), I clip it. I do draw the line at things like Fixodent, but for the most part I pull every coupon because if I can get it free, even if it's not something *I* would use, I probably know someone I can give it to.
Also, I never go anywhere without my box o'coupons in the car -- which is why I'm doubly annoyed at missing that Blink coupon. :::slaps self on hand:::
It's fun and I also have my DD helping -- she clips coupons for me every week for a small fee :-)
In other news, we've decided NOT to do the craft show this coming weekend for a number of reasons. Partly because I'm SO not prepared, partly because we'd be out in the roasting sun with no protection for six hours (and it's HOT here lately, people... it was 90 yesterday with a "real feel" of 98), partly because I can't get in touch with the organizer for ANY details, partly because my husband is going boating on Saturday and DD has already missed two other trips for stuff (like agility last weekend) and partly because I've just had a really bad feeling about it for the past couple weeks. That's a little "woo woo" I know, but I really believe in intuition (don't you think your brain picks up on things subconsciously that you don't realize consciously?), so I'm kissing the reservation fee goodbye and giving it a pass.
That does mean, however, that all the stuff DD has been cranking out has to get up on DistinctivelyDD (she's done maybe 50+ earrings, several necklaces and some bracelets and hair pins). It also means I'm going to have a contest for her very, very soon.
This morning, after several insanely hot, VERY dry days (my POOR garden ... I'm watering, but it's still struggling), we're having a thunderstorm. The rumbles have just started, but I'm just so grateful for the rain. I hope it pours... It should also clear out the 90+ degree heat and 9 billion percent humidity. Those of you down south are probably laughing up your sleeve at me, but just remember -- I don't have A/C here.
I've also been insanely busy. I can't remember the last time life has been this nuts. I won't go into it all, but suffice it to say I seldom get a moment to just slow down ... it's go-go-go all day long. I've tried to visit your blogs, but I'm a day behind again.
I MISS you guys when I don't visit (though I am on Facebook a lot, so at least can see your posts there, in passing... I really do love Facebook).

Where Did Monday Go?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once. ~Jennifer Yane
So... I pretty much spent my day sleep-walking yesterday. The night before I'd not been able to sleep well (after the first couple hours -- I CRASHED from about 9:30 - 1:00). Woke up and started thinking about our restaurant bill from the Sunday dinner (DH surprised us and took us out for our bi-annual seafood dinner, lol). It wasn't adding up in my head until I finally just got up and found the receipt.
And then, of course, I was so awake I tossed and turned. So -- I spent the day in a fog, compounded by having a TON of work and some other personal stressors that I won't go into here. Made me a little spacey and cranky. Enough so my DD came downstairs at one point sobbing. "I hate when you're cranky."
I dread the day when she finally goes through puberty -- she's so unbelievably emotional already that I picture her just crying her way through every period.
Anyway, I managed more than four hours of sleep last night, but have out-of-the-house errands planned for much of the day, which puts a wrench in my ability to catch up on work and have DD get her schooling done.
I'm amused when folks assume that, just because I'm *home* that I'm endlessly available to do stuff. Um, homeSCHOOL is just school at home. It doesn't do itself.
And so, thus are the Days of my Life ("like sands through the hourglass...." -- does that show even say that anymore or have they updated themselves to be more mod?).
BTW, I'm trying to visit everyone. I know I say that all the time, and I keep thinking that life will settle down a bit, but no such luck. I WISH I had five minutes to be bored. I'm never bored anymore... but you're all in my reader and I'll get there when I can take a breath.
Have a great Tuesday.

Busy Monday
All our knowledge merely helps us to die a more painful death than animals that know nothing. ~Maurice Maeterlinck
So, yesterday was Monday (yay!) and things sort of got back to normal. Since DD doesn't have school, and it's SO hot outside, I need to find things (besides watching TV) to keep her busy. Yesterday she did some scrapbooking, so that was good. Today, I'm encouraging her to make more items for DistinctivelyDD (I posted some new stuff last week, but we really need to build up the numbers again).
In Pillar Place: Monarch, Rho, Pi and Omicron are now pupae. Monarch chrysalis' have to be the most beautiful things, with the shiny gold accents and smooth green exterior. Amazing, don't you think?

Sadly, we had our first casualty of the year. Every morning I open all the containers, do a poop dump and see if they are alive and if they need food. Yesterday, I found Upsilon, brown and hard, on his leaf. So...RIP Upsilon. Monarch pillars have an odd tendency to die for no apparent reason, so this doesn't surprise me, but it did make me sad. I was really hoping for 100% survival this year.
But then, I also almost did one in myself! DD had taken it upon herself to moisten the floral foam, but she did it TOO much and there were puddles on the bottoms of the containers, which is very bad for a couple reasons. One, these pillars are sill nearly microscopic (maybe 1/8" long and thin as a straight pin) and would drown in a drop of water. Two, because it's so warm, when the containers are closed they would act as a greenhouse and have condensation all over -- which could rot the little pillars.
So, we were pulling out the leaves, one by one, and using a paper towel to dry out the containers. I'd have DD hold the leaf while I dried and on one, Gaston's, when she handed it back to me, I accidentally brushed where the pillar was!! I looked at the side of my hand, now covered in tiny pillar poop (it looked like someone had peppered my hand) -- no pillar. Looked at the leaf -- no pillar!! Looked at the table -- no pillar. But I was holding it up near the edge, so DD started looking on the floor. For a tiny, opaque pillar with a little black head.
Shockingly, she found him. Now, we had to figure out how to pick him up because he's too small to use fingers, to fragile to use anything hard (like tweezers). I finally settled on using a small, soft cosmetics brush to "sweep" him back onto his leaf. It seemed to work, and he was crawling around last I looked (last night), but this morning when I check, we'll see if he was hurt more than he appeared.
There's endless adventure in Pillar Place!
===================
It rained yesterday! Okay, only for about ten minutes, but it dumped the whole time. Still, when I went out about an hour later to check the mail, I looked at the garden around my mailbox, and it was dust dry with all the flowers wilted! I filled up a small jug and carefully poured water on the most delicate of the flowers there. Mostly there is seedum and portulaca, which is pretty drought resistant, but I also have clematis and petunias, which are not.
We're expecting more significant rain on Wednesday. I really, really hope they're right.
===================
I was utterly swamped over in LASR/WC/Aurora yesterday, and didn't get to visit blogs. I'm missing everyone!! I'm scheduling blog-hopping time today, dang it, and will swing by soon. No writing yesterday either. It was all work, all the time.

Baby Steps
Slow down and everything you are chasing will come around and catch you. ~John De Paola
Yesterday was obscenely busy. Just plain crazy. We started a new promo in LASR/WC for Easter, and I got slammed with emails (which is good... but not, yanno?), we were all running out of socks and undies, so laundry was a must-do (six loads... yeah, it had been a while), the dog needed her food made (chop, chop, cook, cook, grind, grind), we had books due at the library, I had no cheese for what I had planned for dinner (drive, drive).
I ran flat out all day long.
Dinner, though, should be getting easier soon for two reasons. First, I'm doubling everything and making one pan for the freezer on anything I can (last night I made enchiladas -- one for us, one for the freezer), so I'll have things I can just pull out on nights that are crazy (like my agility nights where I lose a good four hours). Second, I'm having DD work with me every time I cook now in the hope that she'll eventually be able to take over cooking at least a couple nights a week (she can already do the simpler stuff like stew and spaghetti). She may not like that idea so much (yesterday ... after I washed and she dried/put away three sets of dishes, and then I told her she was helping me cook, she said, "Do I get paid for this?" and I replied, "Yeah: room and board."), but it's all part of growing up, IMHO.
During the time I was sending out about 100 email responses for the promo yesterday, my brain was working on my story. I just let it drift and kept a pad of paper beside the computer to scribble ideas. I had a few that will be so much fun to write... my favorite thing about writing romance that's a little nuts is that I can do just about anything and it's okay (like my character in "One Love for Liv" who is trying to break a Guinness World Record).
I still have obscene amounts of work to do, but that's okay. I took advice from Kris Kringle yesterday (couldn't find the original clip, but this works):
So, I'm off to put one foot in front of the other...

Late!
"I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date! No time to say hello, goodbye! I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!" - The White Rabbit, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"
I am SO late this morning! I've not been sleeping well -- my hips ache something fierce, and they're worse than usual lately because I haven't been able to walk, so I toss and turn all night. Last night I tossed and turned, and at 2:30 a.m. finally moved to the couch (it's softer than the bed, and easier on my bones) and tossed and then... ahh... blessed sleep. But I slept through my cell alarm AND the coffee brewing AND the cat bugging me, so didn't get up until 6:15 a.m. !!!
Between all my morning chores, I'm only just getting on the computer.
A few things...
1. Ceri asked how I do the things I do. Ceri: I never stop moving, seldom do one thing at a time (the other night, I decided to spoil myself and sit and watch TV without a book or computer in my hand -- and after about ten mins I went NUTS, so grabbed my computer and started working, too) and frequently do more than two things (yesterday I baked cookies, washed dishes and cleaned the kitchen -- I mean, I have ten minutes between batches, I can't just sit and wait, can I?). I'm also very very big on to-do lists.
2. I'm going to do JaNoWriMo in January -- my goal will be to complete editing "Return to Stiller Creek" -- this is pretty major, since I'm changing the characters jobs around and have added two new characters and changed "whodunnit" in one case. Anyone want to join me, they are welcome. Set a goal and blog about it. Easy peasy.
And now... I need to go see why my DH isn't up. Have a great day!
==================
Yep... that's spot on.

Busy, Busy, Busy....
The essential question is not, "How busy are you?" but "What are you busy at?" ~Oprah Winfrey
Yesterday was crazy busy (shocking, I know) -- we processed our neighbor's deer and that's always an all day thing. I managed to do some computer work in between times, but unfortunately I have a whole bunch of chores to do today, like laundry (since we're running out of clothes!).
I'm also working on three book videos, so if I'm noticeably absent, that's why. I did try to touch base with people a little yesterday, to catch up on your lives and all the cute cat pictures from Brandy (loved Layla's!) and the LOLcats from Melissa. They always make me smile.
I have well over 20 TV shows on my TiVo to catch up on, too -- usually I'll watch them during the day while I work on the computer at the same time, but with DH home I haven't been able to. Oy Vey. And, the thing is: I don't watch all that many shows, so that tells you how long it's been since I've watched an TV (weeks!).
In any case, today is supposed to be nice and sunny, thankfully, so even if I have to be inside at least the house will feel cheery. Yesterday was dark and dismal (we were getting the leftovers from Ida) and I am looking forward to sun. So is Dakota. She's not a big fan of the wet weather.
Wishing you all a lovely Sunday :-)

Nothing Ever Goes As Planned
When you feel dog tired at night, it may be because you've growled all day long. ~Author Unknown
Yesterday was a testy day for all of us. Having DH home so much has been an experience, to say the least. Understand that it's not that we don't love him, it's just that DD and I have a routine, and a way we do things and behave and it's been affected dramatically by adding "Daddy" to the mix on a 24 hour basis.
So, DD is cranky, I'm cranky, and DH is cranky. At least the dog is happy!
In any case, writing isn't going great. It's okay, but not great. I made up my word count from yesterday, but am behind again this morning. I even got up at 3:30 a.m. to try to get ahead, but fate once again conspired against me.
That's okay, I'm only 1000 words behind today. As long as I never get farther behind than that, I think I'll make it through! More NaNo stuff about me will be on the JaNoWriMo blog.
Happy weekend to all of you.

Frustrated and Frazzled
Stress is nothing more than a socially acceptable form of mental illness. ~Richard Carlson
Was on pretty much a dead run all day yesterday and, for whatever reason, didn't handle it with my usual aplomb. Spent the day feeling frazzled and frustrated -- AND, I didn't get to blog-hop again. I miss reading your stuff. I hate that. Still, today is a new day, so will do my best to move through it with grace and composure. *G*
I borrowed the first season of Eureka from the library yesterday. I can't wait to watch it -- last week's show reminded me how much things have changed in the past years, so it'll be fun to return to the beginning.
DD and I decided not to volunteer at the library officially -- they require a work schedule, which I understand, but right now I'm still trying to wrap my brain around everything we're already doing and the thought of having something specific scheduled again was more than I could handle. Instead, we're adopting shelves, which means we make sure they're in proper order, that the books are in good shape (and send them for repair if they aren't), and check for series that aren't marked on the spine. As we get the shelves we chose yesterday organized, we'll adopt more. So, we're still helping -- just not in a truly official capacity, and we can show up every week when we can.
It's getting into the 40s at night now, so I have to think about taking down my veggie garden. Might do that over the weekend... we'll see. The tomatoes are about done anyway, but I might leave the cucumbers and squash until it officially freezes. Ugh... don't want to think about winter.
And that's life in my neck of the woods. I am going to try desperately to catch up with y'all today. Hope to see you then!

Except for the title and the first paragraph, it's pretty close... lol...

*G*I borrowed the first season of Eureka from the library yesterday.
Hitting the Floor Running...
I don't know why it is we are in such a hurry to get up when we fall down. You might think we would lie there and rest for a while. ~Max Eastman
It's early and I'm already at a dead run. Today should be crazy!
Judy and I are guests on author Rowena Cherry's "Crazy Tuesday" radio show (today at 10 - 12 EST). While I spend two hours on the phone (and get cauliflower ear) I have to figure out how to keep DD and Dd quiet and occupied. Now, DD would be perfectly content to watch a movie, but Dd? Not so much.
I'm told that the radio microphone's pick up EVERY little noise. Rowena mentioned that folks have tried eating, drinking and even going potty while on the show and it all comes through. OY.
So, yeah, I'm a little nervous. Apprehensive. BUT... Rowena is one of the loveliest, most gracious and funny authors we've met. So, regardless of what I do (or Judy... though I suspect most faux pas will be on my end, lol), I'm sure Rowena will make the best of it.
If you want to listen or participate you can go here: Rowena Cherry's Crazy Tuesday Radio Show and click on "listen live" in the left sidebar.
If you want, you can text questions by using this short code 88147.I know there is a way to phone in, but I can't find it in the instructions. Found them: To call in and talk to us, dial 866-97P-IVTR.
In any case -- wish me luck! I checked, and there is no five second delay (something I've always thought my mouth needed IRL).
And then, when that's all done I still have everything else on my To-Do list to tackle.
Dear heavens, I'm tired already...

Um... 50/50 really... But, couldn't they have found a cuter dog?

Wherein I Summarize Using Many Colons
When I get real bored, I like to drive downtown and get a great parking spot, then sit in my car and count how many people ask me if I'm leaving. ~-Steven Wright
Color me swamped. I'm overwhelmed at The Long and the Short of It right now -- we're having an anniversary celebration next month and it's going to be HUGE... lots of fun and prizes, culminating in a giveaway of not one, not two but THREE Sony eReaders.
This is taking a lot of work and organization (things on which I normally thrive) to the point my head feels like it's going to explode (unfortunately, that's not figurative, as I've been fighting a three-day headache... so far this a.m. it's feeling pretty good, though :::fingers crossed:::).
I tell you this so you'll understand the brevity of this post.
Weather: pouring rain.
Pillars: Growing like weeds (we have 5 hatched monarchs)
DD: cranky because no boating today.
Dakota: Sleeping on the couch -- she had a long day of being chaotic yesterday. SEE:

Writing: Limited, but there.
Gardening: Did some weeding yesterday... barely made a dent. Killed another squash borer moth (grrrrr...). Picked one squash and about 8,009,765 peas and green beans.
Me: Spinning plates.
Have a great weekend!

I'm Not Ignoring You...
Methinks I see the wanton hours flee,
And as they pass, turn back and laugh at me.
~George Villiers
Hey all... I know I haven't been visiting blogs much this week -- you're there in my Google reader, beckoning me, but this week has been NUTS. I haven't forgotten you... I promise. I MISS YOU and will try to catch up this weekend. I hope.
Have a wonderful day!!

Thursday Thirteen: 13 Reasons I Haven't Been Blogging
I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much. ~Mother Teresa
Have you missed me?

I've been a poor blogger the past couple of days... and I've missed y'all. But here's what I've been doing instead.
13.
Beating my DD at Battleship.
12.
Bandaging her foot twice a day.
11.
Weeding and watering my garden. I admit to being just a little afraid of my cucumber plants... there are (no exaggeration) probably 150 baby cucumbers. **gulp**
10.
Dealing with a bored dog who has: torn up a throw pillow, eaten part of a couch cushion, and gnawed on a rug. So far.
9.
Carrying my DD wherever she needs to go because her good leg is now so sore she can't even hop well
8.
Constant headaches. Severely limits my time on the computer. There is good news, though. I may have found a solution... but that's a story for tomorrow.
7.
Housework. I know, I know... I could let it slide. But it needed doing, badly. And, it's something I can do even when I do have a headache.
6.
Errands. Made more difficult with a DD who can't walk.
5.
The Cunning Voles of Doom. I finally had to bite the bullet with these guys, when they started on my ground covers (I lost more than HALF of my dragons blood seedum, pretty much the only thing left in that garden). After catching and releasing 1,984,735 of them I decided that they were procreating too quickly for me to get them all. So... I broke down and used:
4.
Revenge. I hate the name. I hated using it. I've always felt like we should try to live with the critters instead of just killing them off. But, once they finished with this garden, they'd have moved to another, and another. It was the most humane way I could find to assassinate them -- certainly better than anti-coagulant poison (nothing like bleeding to death slowly, over a period of a week). I still feel guilty. But, it's been two days and no new holes have appeared. Man, I hope it worked.
3.
Utter exhaustion. Mostly mental and emotional, but I also haven't been sleeping a solid eight hours (or even six) either. Who knew taking care of an injured kidlet could be so wearing? Unfortunately, this has also led to:
2.
Depression. This is something I struggle with, even on good days. But, since there has been quite a bit of stress and difficulty lately, it's been worse than usual. And, I typically react to it by retreating. From everything. And doing really brainless things like:
1.
Playing games at Facebook. Nothing like a good game of Blocky to make you smile. Now if only people would stop snatching my pets (like Tori and Groovy) from me, all would be well in the world.

A Quickie
Really quick, because today is guest blogger day (and please go read and comment and make her feel welcome!)...
First: If I normally visit your blog and comment, and haven't lately -- please don't take it personally. I am so busy I can't begin to describe it. Next week life should be back to only "very busy" down from the current "blow the top of my head off utterly nuts, can't breathe, can't think".
Next: Dena -- I buy all my beneficial bugs from Biconet - I've ordered earthworms and praying mantis so far, and been very happy with the results. I'm sure there are other places to get them, too. You might look in to a ladybug house as well, so you can keep them close.
Remember -- every comment here enters you in my contest. Good luck!
Now go say howdy to this week's guest blogger!
