Christmas Shopping and Getting To Know You

Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen. ~Author unknown, attributed to a 7-year-old named Bobby

Did yesterday feel about twelve hours too short to anyone else? I swear, it flew by and I feel like I got very little accomplished. Ugh.

In the "good news" category, though, DD and I had to run out a couple places on errands yesterday and I saw a BUNCH of things I wanted to get for her (including Holiday Barbie ... please let it still be there this morning). I made mental notes about them, and will spend the 90 minutes she's in art class running around and, hopefully, finishing my shopping for her.

She also gave me a Christmas list last night. Besides Holiday Barbie, she wants roller blades (not going to happen -- because I don't think she'll use them), a paint-by-number with an eagle on it, GCs to Barnes and Noble and various art supply places, glue sticks for her glue gun (she was specific -- she wants 35 of them, which makes me tempted to buy her 34 just because, but they might make a fun stocking stuffer), and some other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head.

In any case, I'm hoping 90 minutes will be enough. THEN, while she's at her friend's house this afternoon, I'll do the wrapping (I hate wrapping ... she's wrapped everything else we've gotten).

Are you done with your Christmas shopping?

====================

Yesterday, Joanna St. James asked her blog readers to post a short bio of themselves. It wasn't easy to think of how to describe myself in a few sentences, but this is what I put:

I live in New Hampshire but wish it were the Bahamas (or anywhere they don't get snow).

I've never been outside the USA unless you count Mexico (I don't).

I love pretty much every living critter (I even scoop up spiders and put them outside, except in the winter -- they'd DIE out there! -- so they can live in my house until spring. Yes, really ... I put them in the basement.)

I'm a freak about eating right and as naturally as possible, I prefer holistic medical treatments and so far that's working for me.

I write, therefore I am.

I have a husband, a daughter a cat and a dog. In the summer, I have dozens of caterpillars as pets, but sadly they grow up and fly away every year.

I have a warped sense of humor, leaning toward the sarcastic and twisted, but manage to keep it in check most of the time.

I talk to everyone -- salespeople, waitresses, people on the street. Despite that, I'm actually painfully shy.

Now it's your turn... today, I'd love for you to tell me (and my other readers) about yourself. Come one, share!

And, just to kick things off right ... let's all sing along:

===================

You Are Elegant and Sophisticated

You are an idealist. You have a dream of how the world should be, and you resist straying from from your ideals.

People accuse you of being a romantic, and it's true enough. You believe in fairy tale endings.

You're the type of person who believes that less is more. You don't like clutter of any kind.

You appreciate luxury more than other people. You can't help it... you have expensive tastes!

About 75% right .... though, if money were no object, the last would certainly apply. Sadly, I haven't been able to find a seed for the money tree, lol...

You Are Generous and Charming
You are love to be around other people, and you especially love to entertain.
You're a bit fanciful and a dreamer. You like to add your personal touch to everything.

You are an optimist with unfussy tastes. You see beauty in the simplest things.
You are truly happy and feel blessed in your life. You enjoy what you have and you're always ready to give back a little.

This is so weird this getting to know you song has been stuck in my head all day and now its haunting me here.

Okay I am a contemporary romance writer, I live in Corsica, I started writing seriously in june and I have made good progress editor wise.
I have a toddler who runs my life so I can only write in the middle of the night.
My hubs, son and i have different coloured passports so our friends jokingly call us the UN family.
I write a lot just so that I wont have to edit.

This is great I think its really nice for us all to know each other

I'm boring, 'nuff said.
Glad you were able to spot many things for your DD yesterday. I have confidence you'll be able to purchase everything today. Be careful wrapping everything! Scissors are evil. *g*

You Are Unconventional and Self-Assured
You are independent and quirky. You never like to follow the crowd.
You prefer to do your own thing. You stay away from trends, but you usually end up setting trends anyway!
You are stylish and chic. You are always drawn to quality, and you like to surround yourself with unique things.
You seem to know where to find the best everything. You're very well traveled and cosmopolitan.

Stylish and chic? No, trend setter? No. Well traveled and cosmopolitan-NO! *g*
I do like and prefer quality over quantity, though.

Hope your day goes well!

You Are Outgoing and Active

You love to be on the go, and you have a strong appreciation for nature.

You tend to prefer smells (and sights) that are natural and subtle. You don't like to be overpowered.

You are inspired and energized by being outdoors. You sometimes feel like you're powered by the sun.

You like to be out in the world doing something. You could never be a hermit.

This is so not me-35% accurate.

I love The King and I, but I think I prefer Anna and the King, although I don't entirely buy Jodie Foster in the role of Anna.

No, I haven't even started my shopping yet, but that's pretty standard for me. I wait til the last minute and then panic. I think next week will begin my shopping.

Bio? They're so hard to write.

Born in Minnesota, I've lived in New Hampshire for most of my life, except with a few detours to Iowa, Florida, Maine and NY. I've worked a lot of different jobs, from mucking stalls, working in a library, back stage in a theater and booking cruises, but my dream job is being a romance writer and I'm working on that.

I have a husband and four human kids and three furry kids who keep me vacuuming constantly.

I'm rather quiet and swear I have a social anxiety problem because I'm not good in public or with people I don't know really well. Doesn't work well with marketing my work, however.

I've been all over the US and to Canada, the Bahamas and England but my true desire is to go to Wales, Scotland and Ireland. I'd certainly settle for Idaho and Texas though. One of my goals is to get my husband on an airplane.

As Marianne said: "I write, therefore I am." Just wish I had more time to write.

There.....
