Tightwad Tuesday: Take Care of It

A man builds a fine house; and now he has a master, and a task for life: he is to furnish, watch, show it, and keep it in repair, the rest of his days. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I've got a great suggestion on how to save money: take care of the things you have!!

Save on paint: don't let your kids draw or put stickers on their walls.

Save on clothes: Have two sets -- play/work and regular stuff.

Save on furniture: Keep it clean and don't abuse it ("No more monkeys jumping on the bed!).

Save on home repairs: Regular maintenance of anything and everything will keep you from having to replace it, which is a far more costly endeavor.

I've mentioned in the past that my DH is a bit of a neat freak. I've had to adapt my clutterbug self in order to promote at least some harmony in our house. I'm also a bit of a freak about order and organization, and so my heart sang when I discovered FLY LADY.

Some of you have most likely seen her site or her books. She is a woman after my own heart (though I will say that I don't wear shoes in the house, only slippers or socks, or I go barefoot). She has a control journal that tells you when to clean certain areas of your house, and hints on making it easy to KEEP the place clean.

I'll say it again: if you take care of your things (and this includes cleaning them and putting them away properly), you won't have to replace them as often.

Check out Fly Lady. See what you think. I'm telling you -- her Fling Boogies are addictive.

A general note: Tightwad Tuesday is going to change to a once a month posting after today. I should probably think of a new name... hmm... any ideas?

You Are Not Messy

You're so clean, people have accused you of being a clean freak!

You like things tidy, organized, and smelling fresh.

Messes drive you crazy, especially when you didn't make them.

It's hard for you to live with a slob - or someone who leaves their dishes in the sink.

Maybe I should spend some time with this Fly Lady person. I think I went to her site before.

I'm definitely a clutterbug. I need to toss a bunch of stuff. My DH is definitely neater than I am. It's just not right.

re quiz: "I am not messy"

I hear you on your suggestions. I have many items over 5 years old.

Have a good Tuesday.

I'm a little messy according the the poll, but then we knew that already. :-)

Time to go back to FlyLady... things were better when we were friends.

Flylady made me want to slit my wrists. Her email notices drove me insane. I now use motivatedmoms.com. It's a checklist. Much more my style than flylady.

I am probably one of the few people out there who does not like FlyLady, or the SHE system she based her methods on. But I know it works for a lot of people.

My house probably isn't show-room ready, but it's not a biohazard and the stuff is largely under control. We clean once a week and then pick up after ourselves (for the most part) as we go along. But we have four VERY different cleaning personalities living here and we have to accommodate them all.

I haven't tried Fly Lady but have heard of her method - sounds good to me. Will give it a try.

I like what you said about two sets of clothes. I always had to change my clothes when I got home from school. I followed this with my own children.

I had much the same reaction to Fly Lady as Melissa. I wanted to either kill myself or kill her. I wasn't too worried about which of us it would be. *g* Wisely, however, i just unsubbed from her newsletter and we both got to live.

I never subbed to Fly Lady's emails... those ARE annoying. I use her control journal and other ideas.

I must be the lone person who has never heard of flylady.
Since I don't work, I wear the same clothes day after day, but do have dressy clothes for other occasions.
I tackle a cleaning project a day (at least) and have laundry almost every day.
Oh, as for the quiz, I Am Not Messy. (I knew that! *G*) My family thinks I'm a neatfreak. *G*

I hope you're having a good day!
