Note to anyone who doesn't have a dog: A Halti (or Gentle Leader) is NOT a muzzle. (Edited to add: This in NOT my dog, but is a picture I swiped from a pet supply store to illustrate what the Halti looks like):
It is a system to help keep your dog from pulling on the leash. If I have one more person ask my why my dog is muzzled, I may scream. Just saying.

Does anyone from the East have an answer to why folks here don't use their front doors? I was gabbing with my DH and he doesn't have a good reason, despite having been raised here. It's the strangest thing. Many people don't have walkways to their front door, or clear the snow. Some folks even put huge decorations on their front step -- like those decorative wooden wheelbarrows with flowers -- so that you couldn't use your door if you tried.
I have NEVER seen this anywhere else. Thoughts?

And.. I don't know why. It's that way here too. I WANT a walkway to our front door and I would like people to start using it!
Growing up we never used the front door (and we had a walkway to it). All our friends came to the backdoor. I guess it was a lot like that old saying "backdoor friends are best."

You know, you're right. Everytime I've visited someone who lives in a house and have side or back door or a garage, they never enter through the front door. My guess is they don't want people to see them coming and going.

Just tell them it's so she doesn't bite them....They'll leave you alone. Believe me, of all the contraptions I want to put on Indy when attempting to take her for a walk, a muzzle TOPS the list.

As for front doors vs. side/back doors. I have no clue. Maybe because in bad weather not only does no one use their front door, but to keep from tracking icky stuff into the "nice" rooms of the home?

My hubby is from NY. His family never used the front door. They didn't even have a path to the front door. It was all grass. When people came to visit, they walked through the backyard to get to the back door which led into the kitchen. It was so bizarre to me. And it was a really nice Cape Cod house.
