Leftover Woes

As a child my family's menu consisted of two choices: take it or leave it. ~Buddy Hackett

So... DH had the audacity to ask me what I was making for dinner yesterday.

HAHAHAHA....

Since we have NO room in the fridge because of the piles of turkey and ten pounds of mashed potatoes, what do you think?

He made himself hot dogs.

*sigh*

I am apparently the only one in my family who does't mind eating the same thing a few times in a row. I love it. I probably wouldn't mind having one or two things for dinner for the rest of my life.

I'm the kind a person who always gets "the usual" when I go out to eat. Going to new restaurants always stymies me.

But now I have to figure out what to do with all the leftovers, because I can't eat them all before they spoil. And, you can't freeze potatoes.

How about you? Are you adventurous when it comes to food, or do you typically stay with the things that work? What are you doing with YOUR leftovers (if you have them)?

My husband's always urging me to try something new when we go out to eat. I say, "If it ain't broke, why fix it?" I could try something new and hate it, so I'd rather stick to what I know and like, and not go away hungry. Works for me.

It may sound weird but I add minced garlic, basil and oregano to mashed potatoes and cook them with some olive oil in a skillet. Sort of crunchy on the outside and still mashed within. I actually make extra mashed potatoes sometimes just so I can do this. :)

I like my usual too and when I go to a new restaurant, I always look for pasta or a chicken dish. I will try something new and difficult but it must be visually appealing or I like the ingredients.

We would make turkey terayki over rice, one day, turkey sandwich and then the third day, pray that all the turkey was gone. Do you like potato pancake?

I don't have leftover

I'm also a gingerbread house

Well, there is good evidence that I am a gastronomic conservative:

I had leftover green bean casserole, wild mushroom bread pudding, and cranberry apricot sauce for breakfast, lunch, and dinner yesterday. I thought it was fabulous, and I might do the same today.

My husband despairs over the fact that the only thing I ever want for breakfast is cereal and juice. He has been waiting 20 years to hear me say, "Oh, honey, I'm just dying for bacon and eggs and fried potatos, and maybe some biscuits, too. Would you mind waiting for breakfast while I do a little work in the kitchen?"

I ate a ham sandwich with french's mustard every day of my high school career.

On the other hand, I am easily bored by making the same dishes year-in and year-out: dinner time, I have decided, seems just right for experimentation and innovation. And trying out a new restaurant is at least as much of an adventure as going to the movies!

I eat one thing all week. Usually I'll cook on Sunday--something to take in my lunch to work, and something to grab from the fridge when I get home from work. I don't mind...but I usually will be a little more adventurous when I go out :) Turkey kabob anyone?

You Are Eggnog

Rich, sweet, and probably a little drunk. Everyone who knows you tends to get a little fatter.

I had leftovers last night. I'll probably have them for lunch. But I really don't like eating the same thing over and over again. More than a day and it really bothers me.

If I was there, I'd help you eat those leftovers. I love leftover turkey & fixings.

We've got our twin thing going today. I'm a Gingerbread House, too. :)

We had leftovers for lunch yesterday (dinner was pizza over a DVD) and today we had full leftovers for dinner. I froze the rest of the turkey and the cranberry sauce tonight, froze the three containers of turkey stock, and the rest of the mashed potatoes will be happily consumed by my growing teen tomorrow. There's about a teen-boy serving left.

We didn't have any mashed potatoes left over this year, but in the past when we did, I did made what Dru mentioned - potato pancakes. I add an egg and maybe a little unbleached flour and mix and make patties or pancakes. The kids would put ketchup on their potato pancakes.

We have dressing left over but my husband will eat it. He loves dressing.

I don't try new things at a restaurant because we don't go out often so want to get something I know I like.

I will eat leftovers for another day and then there had better be another way to cook what else we had. *g* As a matter of fact we made Turkey stir fry last night! And when I go out to eat I like to order the same thing. I like it, I'm eating it!

And I received Gingerbread House too!

Have a relaxing Sunday!
