It's My Party ....

Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional. ~Chili Davis

Happy birthday to me. I realized yesterday (after I used a calculator to figure out how old I was... yes, really. After awhile I think age just doesn't matter any more and I really couldn't remember how old I was! LOL...) that I was going to be 44 on 1/11/11.

Four four on one one one one one.

I really thought that was cool.

It doesn't seem that I should be this age.

I'm not upset or demoralized at being 44 ... I'm not going to hide my age (though I do admit to coloring the gray out of my hair). Who cares how old I am?

Still, I always think I'm going to look in the mirror and see me at 19. It doesn't happen, and I'm often surprised when I look and see me at this age. "Really? How did that happen?"

This is my sister and me from a few years ago.

I graduated high school twenty-seven years ago. I'll be married fourteen years this year. My daughter will be twelve in April. All these things remind me that I'm not a young chick.

But I still feel like on one the inside!

So, happy birthday to me. I am who I am...

I'm also blogging at the Marianne's blog today (All Day, All Night) if you'd like to swing by.

You Are a Guru

Spiritual and thoughtful, you tend to take a step back from the world.

You're very sensitive to what's going on around you, yet you remain calm.

Although you are brilliant, it may take you a while to find your niche.

Your creativity is supreme, but it sometimes makes it hard for you to get things done.

Your strength: Your inner peace

Your weakness: You get stuck in the clouds

Your power color: Emerald

Your power symbol: Leaf

Your power month: November

Yanno, I have to disagree with about 75% of what this says ...

Happy Birthday, Michele

Believing hear, what you deserve to hear:
Your birthday as my own to me is dear...
But yours gives most; for mine did only lend
Me to the world; yours gave to me a friend.
~Martial

I wanted to wish a VERY happy birthday to a good friend: Michele!!

:::THROWS CONFETTI:::

I'm blessed to have met her (she came on board with LASR/WC as a reviewer right after we started) and am grateful she lives over the border in Massachusetts. We actually get to meet every now and then.

Hope your day is VERY happy, m~, and wish I was there celebrating with you.

And, in her honor, I thought I'd share a few funnies I got from Ceri. Michele is a Facebook fiend, so she'll enjoy these:

What if Facebook existed centuries ago?

You Are an Armchair

You are a supporting and caring person. It's likely that you are an old friend to many.

You are inviting and welcoming. You don't mind if people tell you all about their problems.

You need to be needed, and you enjoy having other people depend on you. You find meaning in being the rock.

People can really let down their guard around you and say exactly how you feel. You know all of your friends extremely well.

Hmmmm... 50/50?

Dogs On a Sugar High

"It (sugar) ought to be against the law - and white bread also."--Dr Kelley DDS

Dakota had a lovely birthday. We bought these gourmet "dog" cookies (I use quotes because, though these were sold as dog treats, they were made from human grade ingredients and were simply shortbread cookies topped with various dog-safe sprinkles, or dipped in carob) and brought them to class to share. The dogs LOVED them, and most of the dogs that attend class are owned by folks who use all-natural, no bad stuff in is dog food and treats, so these dogs didn't get junk food regularly.

It showed.

Especially in the second class, the dogs were crazy in the beginning, bouncing off the walls, going off course, not listening ... but only in the first 2/3 of class. Then, all of a sudden, their sugar high crashed. At the end, it was as though no dog had any energy to do things. It was SO funny.

In any case, Dakota's friend Maxie brought in party hats (okay, I'll admit, it was Maxie's mom) and a good time was had by all.

Last night at beginning agility, I played "Let's push the mastiff over the dog walk, but don't let him see me because then he'll get nasty" game. He had two owners working him last night, but they're both ladies about 5'3" tall and he's a BIG dog. He's fallen off the dog walk before, which is what set him back, so we didn't want it to happen again, but he doesn't like other people touching him. So... I stayed in the back and pushed his butt as well as held him when he leaned (holy hundred pounds, Batman) and tried to stay hidden and out of his line of sight.

It was interesting, but we managed to get him over the dog walk three times. I was sweating at the end ... who needs a gym. Just push a 120 lb dog across a piece of equipment he doesn't want to go across.

This is a dog walk:

DH's car is DONE!!! Finally. He finished it last night -- and it looks fabulous. He did an amazing job. He's really quite proud of himself (as he should be), but WOW was it a ton of work. He said he wouldn't mind doing something like that again some time .... but not any time real soon. LOL...

I'm just glad it's finished. Maybe now I'll get some sleep.

Dakota, you weren't the dog I expected, but you're the perfect dog for us. I'm so glad you leaped out of that kennel first :-)
