Longest Blog Post Evah...

When a man does not know what harbor he is making for, no wind is the right wind. ~Seneca

Thanks to Melissa Blue for making me feel old AND giving me something to blog about today. She gabbed about things that happened in the year she was born (1985!!) on her blog and asked about the year I was born (well, okay, it was directed toward any readers, but I figured she was thinking of me when she wrote it... right, Melissa?).

So here you have it, courtesy of Wikipedia -- Interesting facts about 1967 (yes, really -- and I find it odd that MY BIRTH was not listed there! How is that possible?):

* January 15th: Super Bowl I played in Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Green Bay Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10.

* January 27th: Apollo 1: U.S. astronauts Gus Grissom, Edward Higgins White, and Roger Chaffee are killed when fire breaks out in their Apollo spacecraft during a launch pad test.

* February 14th: Respect is recorded by Aretha Franklin. It will be released in April (and become the biggest earworm in the history of music -- not that it's not a great song... it is... but...)

* April 28th: In Houston, Texas, boxer Muhammad Ali refuses military service.

* May 1st: Elvis Presley and Priscilla Beaulieu are married in Las Vegas.

* June 1st: The Beatles release Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, nicknamed "The Soundtrack of the Summer of Love"; it would be number one on the albums charts throughout the summer of 1967.

* June 12th: Loving v. Virginia: The United States Supreme Court declares all U.S. state laws prohibiting interracial marriage to be unconstitutional. (I'll be honest... I had no idea it was ever actually illegal - I just thought it wasn't socially acceptable back then. I learned something new today...)

* June 25th: 400 million viewers watch Our World, the first live, international, satellite television production. It features the live debut of The Beatles' song "All You Need is Love."

* September 18th: Love Is a Many Splendored Thing debuts on U.S. daytime television and is the first soap opera to deal with an interracial relationship. CBS censors find it too controversial and ask for it to be stopped, causing show creator Irna Phillips to quit.

* October 18th: Walt Disney's 19th full-length animated feature The Jungle Book, the last animated film personally supervised by Disney, is released and becomes an enormous box-office and critical success. On a double bill with the film is the (now) much less well-known true-life adventure, Charlie the Lonesome Cougar.

And... top ten songs of 1967?

1. To Sir With Love, Lulu
2. Happy Together, the Turtles
3. Windy, Association
4. Ode To Billie Joe, Bobby Gentry
5. I'm A Believer, the Monkees
6. Light My Fire, The Doors
7. Somethin' Stupid, Nancy Sinatra & Frank Sinatra
8. The Letter, Box Tops
9. Groovin', Young Rascals
10. Kind Of A Drag, Buckinghams

It's still snowing.

Dear heavens...

Warning: Poop talk ahead... the queasy of stomach should skip this part.

So, Dakota got some boiled chicken and rice for food yesterday, along with a Pepto-Bismal caplet that thickened up her squirty poop to a nice "soft-serve" poop quite nicely, thank you very much. Even better, she wasn't up every hour.

She's loving the new diet, though, and keeps running up to me and touching my knee with her nose and then running to her dish and then back again. She's not going to be a happy camper when she goes back to kibble.

Melissa, my pet stores don't sell raw pet food, not even my natural food store. BUT, I do use a high quality, holistic dog food that uses human grade ingredients and no fillers. She was fine on it for two months... I wonder if she's teething? She's lost three molars in the last week.

I hope she's better by Monday -- she goes in to be spayed. I'm so nervous...

For Mary, who is on the hunt for some good country music... why don't you give these a try? I know you're not into country, so I've tried to find some stuff that's borderline pop/rock or at the very least upbeat.

I had some more, but I can't embed.... maybe I'll look for some more tomorrow!

Here's one I love, that you may not, but it always makes me think of developing characters:

=====================

You'd rather have rats than cockroaches in your home

You prefer fiction to non fiction

Boy, do I have THEM fooled... muh-ha-ha...

Okay.. this is fun. I'll play when I get back from Jacksonville. BTW, did you know you can edit Wikipedia.. go put that birth date in there!

And, re: anti-miscegnation laws... did you not see ShowBoat?

and.. a little trivia....SC and Alabama did not remove anti-miscegenation laws from their state constitutions until 1998 and 2000, respectively.

You Are Fairly Normal

You scored 55% normal on this quiz

Like most people you are normal in some ways...
But you aren't a completely normal person. You're a little weird too!

Why You Are Normal:

You prefer your friends to your family

When you're in a car, you prefer to be the driver

You prefer the sun to the moon

If given the choice, you would choose to have more money over more time

You check your daily horoscope

Why You Aren't Normal:

You rather screw someone over than be screwed over

You would rather be tan than pale

You prefer flat potato chips.

You eat the cupcake first

You find the Chicken Dance to be the more embarrassing dance

Some of these questions were a hard choice. I wonder what would happen if you didn't answer them? And what's weird about saving the frosting for last when you eat a cupcake?!

I hope Dakota is better soon.
I was 60% normal. *g* I'll take it.

I hope you have a fabulous saturday.

And I didn't know my state was so backward as to wait until 1998 to fix a law that was wrong to begin with.

It is just not fair that we don't have snow. Although I just heard that we may get snow flurries.

Interesting facts in your birth year. I'll have to remember that when my birthday arrives.

Wow, THANKS, Marianne! I was surprised at the Bon Jovi one. The dh was on the couch, back turned, and asked if that was Bon Jovi. Weird that he recognized him. Who is singing with him?

I've heard the daddy one - I think you posted it awhile back. And I love the Carrie Underwood song. That one surprised me. The last song is good, too.

What's the new blogger template? I have such trouble embedding videos.. haven't figured it out yet. I always have to put them in under a separate post with no writing. Grrrr!

And Bon Jovi is NOT country, lol. ;-)

Although, I guess that song is a crossover. I love Carrie Underwood, too!

Yes, Marianne the question was just for you.

Cool facts.
