So ... DD needs a dress for her graduation that's coming up. We hit the Memorial Day sales yesterday in an attempt to find the perfect dress without having to spend an arm and a leg (I'd like to keep all my limbs, thankyouverymuch).
We spent about four hours shopping and, while we DID buy a dress, she's not entirely happy with it, so there may be more shopping in my near future (oh. joy.).
This is the dress SHE loved best (and it was my least favorite):
This was my favorite (she hated the teeny little shoulder pads -- she would have never lived through the 80s):
This was my next fave:
This is what we ended up with:
But now, she's thinking she'd rather have a short dress again, so the tags are staying on the pink dress and we'll hit some of the mall stores over the next week or so to see what we can find.
Life was so much easier when she was two.

I'm with DD--I never liked shoulder pads and used to cut them out of my clothes back in the day.
I'm digging the long dress, but if she'd like a second opinion, I can have my own DD take a look at the photos this evening.
Love the third dress pictured. It was very complimentary toward her coloring and such. The maxi dress is cute, too. And very much in style, though a shorter sweater (more like a bolero, and in black to bring out the empire waist) would look cute. Whatever y'all choose she'll look great!
Best of luck shopping! (I hear you on shopping for a teen, btw. I miss picking out cute outfits when they were little.)
How fun! I'm with Brandy - stick a shorter sweater with the maxi dress. I think it would look very hip that way and she'd love it. Even one of those open knit black ones might be very cool to go with the black waist band.
I think the color of the second dress looks best on her. And I LOVE that little cinch in the front. So elegant. A little silver bling and some strappy heels and she's good to go.
Not crazy about the prints--especially the last one. It's just too loud, though the sweater softens it a little.
She's growing fast, isn't she?
I like the second dress. I can't believe she's graduating...it's like she just started school.
Charity, we'd love Kyra's input! Send it along...
Brandy and Melissa, the little pink sweater came with the dress, but we did see some black ones with a really wide knit somewhere else. Hmmm...
Maria, I loved that blue dress -- it was so amazing with her complexion. But she didn't, so *sigh* ...
Dru... tell me about it! I can't believe how grown up she is.
I'm not a fan of the top dress at all. It's my least favorite, and I love all the other dresses. If I had to choose it would be #2 and #4. I like the elegance of #2 and she could always cut off the shoulder pads. And I like #4. I've always been a fan of long dresses vs. short.
Kyra's loving the long dress, too. Her second favorite is your DD's fav pick at the top of the list.
FWIW, at Kyra's piano recital, a bunch of girls wore longer dresses.
What a lovely group of choices! How hard to pick just one. But really, they all look great on DD and she would make any of those dresses look beautiful.
Me? I love the second blue one. And the maxi, that one really is very flattering!
Hope the event is awesome.
I don't know how I
survived the 80's!! LOL
Love that last dress!
